From animal removal to storm damage repair , there's no chimney service that The Original Chimney Sweep, Inc. in Plainville, Massachusetts , can't handle.
Water entering a house near the chimney may occur for countless different reasons. We specialize in leak detection and diagnosis. You'll get a 10-year guaranteed waterproof treatment, which does not discolor or change the look of your brick or masonry chimney.
Repointing is a restorative process that replaces the decaying mortar with new mortar. This will strengthen the chimney’s structural integrity. It also helps prevent water from seeping through the exposed mortar joints where it can cause extensive damage to the interior components of your chimney. Repointing is a simple and effective but labor-intensive process. So, chimney repointing is best suited for minor masonry repairs that typically involve a small portion of the chimney. When multiple sections of the chimney need masonry repair, a partial or complete rebuild may be necessary to restore its structural integrity.
A partial chimney rebuilding is recommended when the masonry damage is limited to the top section of the chimney. The damaged bricks are removed and replaced with new bricks and mortar. This service also includes a new chimney crown and installing a new chimney cap.
For more extensive masonry damage that is limited to the upper portion of the chimney, a roofline up rebuild can save the chimney. Technicians tear the damaged masonry down to the roofline and rebuild brick by brick per state and local building codes. If the lead flashing is in good condition, it’ll be left intact. Otherwise, it will be removed, and new flashing will be installed.
Does your chimney have white staining, moss or mold? These are signs that the chimney has water damage. A Waterseal application combined with wire brushing will repel incoming water and slowly withdraw moisture that is in your chimney. This product will protect your mortar and bricks from deterioration. We always recommend a Waterseal application for any masonry repairs to protect your investment. This product carries a 10-year warranty.
ChamberGuard is a new highly insulative ceramic product that is sprayed on smoke chambers, sealing holes and gaps creating a coating that is impervious to acids, vapors and water and it’s good to 2291 degrees Fahrenheit! ChamberGuard was introduced to chimney professionals in the summer of 2002 and is now being used by 100’s of chimney professionals across the country.
The ChamberGuard system is not only easier than other options, but it’s also lightweight and portable enough to be on every sweep service truck.
ChamberGuard can be used to seal, smooth and insulate the smoke chamber without removing the damper frame or brickwork. This is especially helpful for technicians installing stainless steel liners and fireplaces because the ChamberGuard allows them to seal the bottom termination and the complete smoke chamber in one simple operation. This product comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Lead flashing is a sheet of lead installed around your chimney and roof to decrease water penetration. Flashing does deteriorate over time with the changing seasons in New England. Believe it or not, squirrels just love to chew on lead, leading to rips and tears in your flashing. Applying a FlashSeal to the existing lead flashing will prevent any water leaking into the chimney. This product is an elastomeric sealant that is specially formulated for permanent adhesions to shingles, aluminum flashing, and brick. Unlike conventional tar-based sealers, FlashSeal remains permanently flexible, and will not become hard/brittle and crack away from surfaces. It creates a watertight membrane to deter any further leaks, and best of all, it deters the squirrels from chewing on it! This product carries a 7-year warranty.
The firebox of the fireplace is where you burn the wood and should be surrounded by fire brick to withstand the extreme temperatures. Often these blazing temperatures will disintegrate the fire brick and the mortar. We replace or repair the damage with a high-temperature refractory cement.
A crown wash is a masonry coating a-top a brick, block, stone or stucco chimney. It is vital to have one, intact and functional. What function? Crown washes keep water from entering the chimney to prevent rapid deterioration during the freeze thaw cycles. Crowns and caps with cracks are the first point of water entry in any weather exposed chimney. If your crown is not taken care of and fixed in a timely manner, the cracks can travel down your chimney onto your bricks and cause more costly repairs.
Lightning, wind, rain, ice, snow, and tree damage may need fast response and repair and we can help.
